Why choose us?

At A.I. Prince Technical High School, we offer students the chance to master skills in various career and technology programs while earning a high school diploma and industry-recognized credentials. Students learn a skilled trade in one of 15 different career fields &mdash; like culinary, carpentry, or manufacturing &mdash; and complete a challenging certification program that prepares them to meet Connecticut&rsquo;s skilled workforce needs or continue their trade studies after high school. Additionally, they have access to Advanced Placement (AP) and UConn Early College Experience (ECE) Program classes. We pride ourselves on a culturally diverse and supportive environment that welcomes students from over 30 towns.

Unlike a traditional high school where a student has 182 days to complete state-mandated academic requirements, our students split their time between academics and career and technical education, mastering state standards for academic courses in 91 days and trade courses in the other 91 days. Students rotate between academic and CTE courses approximately every two weeks. Ninth-grade students participate in all of the technical programs offered at our school through the Exploratory Program. This experience allows students to engage in the various career path opportunities before choosing one that will set the framework for their education in grades 10-12. As part of their CTE curriculum, students in grades 11-12 take part in the CTECS Student Workforce Program, which is designed to give them practical, hands- on experience and real-world application of learned theoretical skills.

Our students are prepared with essential skills and real-world experience, making them work-ready and adaptable. They develop problem-solving abilities, respect for cultural differences, and professional communication skills. Through the CTECS Student Workforce, students gain hands-on experience by working directly with employers and paying customers, ensuring they are well-prepared for their chosen careers. Leadership opportunities and rigorous academic and technical education equip students for future success.
